Preview: Gender Agenda launch
Poppy Damon gives a sneaky peak into the launch of CUSU Women’s Campaign’s feminist anthology.
Gender Agenda is the feminist zine published most terms by the CUSU Women’s campaign since 1997. Zines have always been a close part of the feminist movement, providing a platform for radical ideas and unheard voices. This year Gender Agenda re-launched with a brand new website and different creative vision; hoping to reinvigorate the potential for feminism to carve out its own creative space. Its working group decided to professionally publish an anthology, which would celebrate the achievements of the Women’s Campaign throughout the year and provide a forum to showcase some of the best articles and artworks created by students about gender, race, class, sexuality, LGBT+ issues and more.
On the tail end of May Week, Thursday 19 June, there will be a launch night for the book at the Judith E. Wilson studio in the basement of the English Faculty at Sidgwick. The event promises wine and soft drinks, poetry and music. Poppy Damon and Harriet Finch-Little, the editors of the Anthology, said they were, "so happy that this project had finally come to fruition". After a year's work, they are very excited for everyone to get a copy and read about student perspectives on difficult issues including the ‘I too am Cambridge’ campaign, Reclaim the Night, Pecs and much more. The book aims to carry on the heritage of a zine-style publication, whilst also having the benefits of a glossy professional finish. The book also includes a ‘Feminist Dictionary’ to help readers with unfamiliar terms.
Copies are limited, so get down early at 8pm to grab yourself a copy for a suggested donation of £2-3. It will definitely be a wonderful read, so don’t miss out.
The Gender Agenda launch takes place in the Judith E. Wilson Drama Studio in the Faculty of English on 19 June from 8-10pm. Find out more here and here
