Sex Club to remain in CUSU
Preliminary results say that Peterhouse students voted 93-58 for their JCR to retain ties with CUSU
Peterhouse students have today voted for their JCR – known as the ‘Sex Club’ – to remain affiliated with the Cambridge University Students’ Unions (CUSU).
Students were asked ‘Should Peterhouse JCR remain a member of CUSU, or leave CUSU?’ When voting closed at noon today, the result stood at 93 voted to remain, 58 to leave.
There were 151 votes cast, representing a turnout of 59 per cent. Peterhouse had only 256 eligible voters, reflecting its position as Cambridge’s smallest college.
The result of the vote can be found on CUSU's website – though they remain preliminary, as so far the Returning Officer, who is responsible for confirming the accuracy of the count, has yet to make any declaration.
CUSU’s website notes that “any results noted here are preliminary/indicative calculations, from an automated counting program (OpenSTV) using the raw data.”
The process began when 17 anonymous Petreans signed a letter arguing that the JCR should split from CUSU, citing “organisational incompetence”, following concerns about cuts to student union paper The Cambridge Student, and the handling of CUSU’s referendum on NUS membership.
