In one of the most exciting races in recent years, Cambridge University Boat Club have clocked up their 80th victory in the 156th University Boat Race.
In their first victory since 2007, the Light Blues beat rivals Oxford in the annual event with a final time of 17 mins 35 seconds.
Despite a tough start, with Oxford taking an early lead on their favoured Surrey side, Cambridge caught up following the Hammersmith bridge. The Dark Blues failed to convert their chance of taking advantage of the lead, and Cambridge made their decisive move, edging ahead at Corney Reach. Upping their stroke rate and maintaining a steady lead, the Light Blues crossed the line a 1 1/3 lengths ahead.
Cambridge’s reserve crew, the Goldies, also won their race earlier in the day.
