Cambridge University will be hosting a Sustainable Entrepreneurship event to mark the reduction of the public sector in society, and the rise of entrepreneurial opportunities.

The event, presented by These Young Minds, aims to equip participants with innovative skills that foster competency in identifying and utilising opportunities, while solving societal challenges.

The free event reacts against the recently announced 1 billion pound green tax which increases the cost of managing business unsustainably. The seminar will provide an opportunity for delegates to learn how to build social values without compromising business value, communicate the need for commercial, social and environmental transformation, and align environmental, societal and financial incentives.

Founder and Director of These Young Minds, Alim Abubakre, outlined the aims of the event as being that of bridging the gap between great ideas and innovative actions.

Dr. David Cleevely, Founding Director of University of Cambridge Centre for Science and Policy, will be chairing the event. He described the “big opportunities for addressing societal challenges using the energy and insight of entrepreneurial approaches” and highlighted the “significant potential” of  new technologies, in particular networking, in achieving this.

Other speakers at the event come from a range of consultancy and professional firms, including Cathy Taylor, Senior Partner of Ernst and Young, Dr. Beatrix Schlarb-Ridley the Business Innovation Manager of InCrops Enterprise Hub, University of Cambridge and UEA, and Stine Jensen, Senior Sustainability Consultant at Radley Yedlar.

Simon Brown, Managing Director of 2degrees solution who is delivering the keynotes at the event, argues that “the event Sustainable Entrepreneurship is topical as we are entering the Fourth Economic Revolution; a period dominated by the economics of scarcity, but also full of opportunity.” He added that “only companies that make sustainability a goal will achieve competitive advantage.”

These Young Minds is a service based social enterprise that provides an inclusive platform for stakeholders to learn about corporate responsibility issues.

The seminar will begin at 16.00 on 28. October at the LG17, Faculty of Law. Attendance is free; members of the public are advised to register at: http://theseyoungminds.co.uk/events/ticketing.php?billet=3
