Blind Date: ‘I didn’t have her pinned as a rugby girl’
Adam, a NatSci, meets Grace, a philosophy student
Adam on Grace
What were your pre-date expectations?
I wasn’t really sure what to expect. I’ve never been on a blind date before, so I just wanted to meet someone and see if we got along well. I wasn’t disappointed. It went well.
So, you met at the Mitre. What were the vibes like there?
It was quite quiet when we arrived, but then it livened up a bit which was nice. It was a good atmosphere for the date.
What were your first impressions of Grace?
I thought she was pretty, and well-dressed.
What did you guys talk about? Did the conversation flow smoothly?
I think the conversation flowed quite smoothly. I think maybe she carried a bit. She did a lot of talking, but I don’t mind that.
“We didn’t have loads in common, but I don’t think it mattered too much”
We did the classic ‘course, college, mutual friends’ sort of stuff. We talked a bit about home. She chairs a bunch of cool committees … it’s impressive. She said she started playing rugby, which was surprising. I didn’t have her pinned as a rugby girl.
Did you find you guys had much in common?
We didn’t have loads in common, but I don’t think it mattered too much. We like some of the same things. We both play rugby.
Describe Grace in three words.
Intelligent, chatty, busy.
What do you think she thought of you?
I’ve got no idea. I thought she enjoyed it, but I’m not completely sure. She said she did.
Would you see her again?
Yeah, I would.
What would you rate the date out of ten?
Probably 7 or 8. It wasn’t, like, amazing, but I can’t think of anything bad about it.

What were your pre-date expectations?
A few friends and I saw the application and thought it would be funny to sign up together. I wasn’t signing up as a joke or anything, but I wasn’t necessarily expecting any kind of romance to come out of it.
And did the date exceed those expectations?
I would say it met my expectations. It was nice to hang out, but there was no romantic spark.

So, you met at the Mitre. What were the vibes like there?
I thought it was a really good place to go to. My main worry was running into somebody I knew, which would be really awkward. It was mostly older people in the Mitre which was super chill because it just felt like it was us chatting. We stayed there for around two hours.
What were your first impressions of Adam?
He seemed very nice. He had a nice top on.
What did you guys talk about? Did the conversation flow well?
We talked about our degrees and what we’re planning on doing after uni. We talked about our hobbies, films we like, and a few mutuals we have. We didn’t have too much in common, but that was fine. There were a few quiet moments but nothing too long.
Describe Adam in three words.
Confident, sporty, good listener.
What do you think he thought of you?
I think I made a positive impression. He said he’d like to meet again. It seemed like he enjoyed it.
What would you rate the date out of ten?
6.5.
