Botched burglary at Corpus Playroom
Rehearsals were temporarily suspended after a vending machine was robbed last night
The Corpus Playroom theatre was last night subject to a botched burglary, Varsity has confirmed.
Play rehearsals for upcoming stage show ENRON were temporarily cancelled after thieves broke in on Monday night.
The ADC Box Office, which oversees the Corpus Playroom, told Varsity at 5pm that the police had left the premises. Tonight’s performances of ENRON and Ashes to Ashes are set to go ahead as planned.
In a Facebook post, ENRON Director Simon West said: “You may have heard Corpus Playroom was broken into last night. Apparently they tried to take money, didn't find any, so robbed a vending machine. Other than some locks broken, it seems Corpus is fine.”
On the play’s Facebook event, a post said “Despite the confirmed break-in at the Corpus Playroom last night, the criminals didn't find all our dollar so ENRON [will] be opening tonight at 7pm!”
Speaking to Varsity, ENRON’s director, Andrew Tan, said “We'd like to think that ENRON is under attack like the many other corporate sharks in the world, but frankly it appears that someone just smashed the locks in and tried to steal money from the vending machine”.
“Fortunately nothing was stolen from our set and props, and we had a very good opening night!”
