Varsity sweep Guardian Student Media Awards
Six awards for members of the 2008-9 editorial team
Six members of Varsity's 2008-9 editorial team won prizes at tonight's Guardian Student Media Awards (GSMA) in London.
The winners, in order of their announcement, were:
Ben Riley-Smith - Best Sports Writer
Robert Peal (Editor Michaelmas 2009) - Runner-up Columnist
Charlotte Runcie - Best Columnist
Zing Tsjeng - Best Feature Writer
Michael Stothard (Editor Lent 2009) - Best Reporter
Patrick Kingsley (Editor Michaelmas 2008) - Student Journalist of the Year
Two other Varsity writers, Decca Muldowney and Andrew Spyrou, were nominated for awards -- for Best Feature Writer and Best Music Critic respectively.
Varsity was the most decorated student paper nationally, and Patrick Kingsley is the first Cambridge student to be named Student Journalist of the Year since the category was established in 2001.
