Bomb scare along River Cam
The bomb device was later identified as a replica grenade that was used to train soldiers in World War One
This morning (19/09), a suspected bomb device was discovered near Trinity College in River Cam.
A magnet fisherman discovered the device in the river, which was then placed in the middle of Trinity Lawn while waiting for the Bomb disposal squad’s arrival.
The suspected bomb device was later identified as a “replica number 5 grenade used for training purposes in World War One”.
The bomb scare resulted in a change in route for the concurrent Chariots of Fire Run, a charity running event.
Punters along River Cam were also told the river is not safe past Trinity College, with those affected by the incident receiving refunds.
The river has since been reopened for public use.
