Cambridge Covid rate third highest in the UK
Cambridge has one of the top three Covid infection rates in the country, according to government data

Cambridge now has the third-highest rate of Covid cases in the country, government figures show.
The data, which shows the infection rate in terms of new cases per 100,000 people, placed Cambridge in the top 3 local authority areas in the country for this measurement. It was topped only by the areas of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon, and Lisburn and Castlereagh, both located in Northern Ireland.
The figures are based on the number of people who have tested positive for Covid-19, either through a lab-reported test or lateral flow tests that have not been followed by a negative PCR test.
The latest government Covid figures were shared on Tuesday 1 February and showed the coronavirus case rates for every local authority area in the UK, excluding data from the most recent five days.
In the seven days leading up to 27 January, the rate of new cases in Cambridge was 1,896.6 per 100,000 people, coming to a total of 2,372 actual new cases. This is an increase compared to the 2,116 cases reported in the seven days leading up to 24 January.
The figures come after national ‘Plan B’ Covid restrictions came to an end on Thursday (27/01), with face coverings and Covid passes no longer being legally required to enter indoor spaces.
