Cambridge businesses and football stadium hit by string of break-ins
A man has been arrested in connection with the raids
Several pubs and a coffee shop in Cambridge, as well as Cambridge United’s Abbey Stadium, have been subjected to a series of break-ins.
The Wrestlers, the Green Dragon, the Engineer’s House, and Kerb Kollective were all raided between June 24 and July 1, while the Abbey was targeted on July 3.
A man was later arrested over the offences for burglary, theft, and possession of an offensive weapon. He has now been released on bail.
Sam Calverley, owner of Calverley’s Brewery who supply refreshments to the Engineer’s House, revealed that around £100 worth of cheese, soft drinks, and alcohol were stolen during the first break-in, and that all three break-ins amounted to around £900 worth of stolen goods in addition to expenses for repairing damages and increasing security.
Rory Foy, the director of neighbouring Kerb Kollective, reported that after the break in his property was left with milk and food items strewn across his floor, labelling the experience “mega stressful”.
Another pub’s spokesperson said their site had also been raided twice in the same week. They said they were concerned about a “lack of police presence” in the area after hearing about similar incidents.
A Cambridge United F.C. spokesman confirmed that the Abbey Lounge, the supporters’ area, was targeted. There was very little damage, not much was taken and the supporters’ club did not want to comment.
A spokesperson from Cambridgeshire Police said: “A 33-year-old man from Cambridge was arrested on Sunday (7 July) on suspicion of three counts of burglary, four counts of theft and one count of possession of an offensive weapon. He has since been released on bail to appear at Parkside police station on 7 October”.
