Prince Charles will be visiting Cambridge on Monday, it was announced today.

Although the primary purpose of his tour will be to give a speech to the Visit England 2011 Tourist Summit, the Prince of Wales also plans to pass by Corpus Christi College to take part in a higher education summit.

Student-favourite the Fitzwilliam Museum will also feature on his tour, where he will meet with University scholars.

His Royal Highness is Patron, and former Chairman of the Trustees, for both the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust and the Cambridge Overseas Trust, which were founded to help international students 'to enjoy the benefits of study at one of the finest universities in the world.'

On Monday, many of the 1265 scholars supported by the Trusts will meet the Prince of Wales at the Fitzwilliam Museum reception.

Speaking to Varsity, Claire Lambert, Communications Manager for the Trusts, spoke of their thrill at the prospect of a regal visit:

"After his long involvement as Chairman, the Trusts were delighted that at this year's annual scholars' reception there will be a chance for His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales to meet some of the students from the 83 countries the Trusts currently support."

The news of Prince Charles’ interest in Cambridge will undoubtedly add to speculation over the anticipated title of his son and future daughter-in-law upon their marriage: bookmakers have already tipped Prince William and Kate Middleton to become the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Prince Charles is a Cantabrigan himself, having read archaeology, anthropology and history at Trinity, graduating in 1970 with a 2:2.

The timings for the Prince of Wales’ return to Cambridge have yet to be confirmed.
