Cambridge will seek victory in the 157th Boat Race against Oxford with a more experienced, international and marginally heavier crew on 26 March.

The crew will look decidedly more familiar in their Light Blue colours than the Oxford opposition after three members of the victorious 2010 boat will be on the water to fight for a repeat performance.

Former world champion, Hardy Cubasch, will sit amongst two fellow Aussies as well as Canadian and American rowers, alongside the Brit-dominated Oxonian boat.

Meanwhile, Oxford have opted for only one returning blue and have weighed in at 13kg lighter than their rivals.

But Cambridge president, Derek Rasmussen, is optimistic about the weight difference, telling the press that “This is the one rowing event in the world where being heavy is good. We will give a fast and confident Oxford crew the best race we can.”

The only change to the winning Cambridge formula from last week’s victory over the GB U23 triallists, comes in the form of cox, Liz Box.

However, the real test could come down to the experience of the coaches: Steve Trapmore, British Olympic gold medalist, is a new face in the Cambridge line-up whereas his Oxford counterpart, Sean Bowden, will be lusting for the taste of his 10th coaching victory at his 17th attempt.

Four of these wins came with Cambridge in the 1990s so this race could provide another painful reminder of why he should never have reconsidered his favourite shade of blue…
