The positions that we are currently looking to fill are:

Production Editor

Your job is to work with the Design Editor and Editor to produce the physical copy of the paper each week (some knowledge of InDesign and Photoshop is recommended for this position). You will be responsible for running the production team and will help fact-check and edit each issue. If you're interested in production but don't want to be editor please still apply to be on the production team (see below).

Design Editor

This position will be responsible for producing the magazine and newspaper front covers every issue, as well as assisting section editors with more complicated page layouts and designs. Knowledge of InDesign and Photoshop is necessary for this position.

Chief Sub-Editor

This position is perfect for anybody who has ever corrected a friend about the correct use of less and fewer (and in Cambridge there sure are a lot of you). This role mainly involves ensuring that all text published is of a suitably high standard, so this is a crucial position - albeit it one which does not require any specific experience.

Art Director (Head of Photography)

This is a new position, which we hope a budding photographer will be happy to take on. For the most part they will be responsible for helping with the magazine section of the paper as well as organising pictures for the magazine and newspaper covers. We may also appoint a Chief Illustrator too, who will fulfil a similar role but for illustration.

Local Advertising Manager

This is a new position, which will require a considerable amount of initiative to set up as we are currently starting to introduce local advertising to the paper (in addition to our normal national advertising). For more information do get in touch with me as this position can be adapted to suit the individual applying.

VarsiTV Editor

VarsiTV has been on hiatus for the past year, but we are looking to bring it back. This can take whatever form you like, from commissioning original dramas and comedy to using broadcast journalism for news and interviews. I'd be more than happy to hear pitches for this position and we may appoint more than one person (& team members).

Subbing and Production Team Members

If you are interested in getting involved with Varsity, but don't want to commit to a major role, these positions are perfect for you. They are crucial for making the paper (& online) editions the best possible quality they can be and for giving a good introduction to what we do here at Varsity, and many of our subs then go on to be section editors in the future.

If you are interested in any of these positions simply send an email to editor@varsity.co.uk. There is no deadline on applications but positions will be filled as and when we find the perfect candidate so do apply sooner rather than later.
