Mother seeks May Ball date for son
A mother has taken out an online classified advertisement in a bid to find a female companion to accompany her son to a Cambridge May Ball

An advertisement, supposedly from a hands-on mother named 'Margot', has appeared on the classifieds website Gumtree requesting a "female student partner" to accompany her son to one of the Cambridge May Balls.
'Margot' specifies that whoever wants the opportunity to experience the "wonderful memory" of a May Ball with her son must be "blonde, talkative, age 19-22 and with a honest and sincere attitude toward this opportunity". She offers to cover the expenses of the lucky lady who meets her exacting criteria.
'Margot' defends her decision to get involved in her son's May Ball experience by claiming that he is "fully occupied" with his academic work, and therefore needs her help to organise a date for the evening. She closes the advertisement by welcoming prospective female students to send a profile of themselves to her for consideration.
Whilst it is unclear whether this is genuine or a hoax, it has circulated around the Cambridge student body online via the popular Overheard at Cambridge Facebook group, which has over 14,000 members.
