Modern Family Planning Methods: How Access and Awareness is Working in Jordan

Jordanian society is increasingly turning to the topic of competent family planning, following the global trends of transforming the approach to pregnancy and childbirth into a more informed one. In the context of social and economic changes that are taking place in the country, the issues of quality medical care for reproductive-age women and informing the population about modern methods of preparation and regulation of fertility are becoming more and more urgent.

Progressive Family Planning Techniques in Modern Society

According to recent surveys, about 75% of Jordanian women are aware of the existence of various family planning methods, but only 50% are actively using them. These include various contraceptive methods as well as fertility-enhancing products. Modern medicine already has many solutions for couples who want to have a controlled and planned pregnancy and childbirth. For example, systems such as the highly effective female fertility test from a respected healthcare brand help women find the best time to conceive based on their natural hormonal cycles. Effective oral or intrauterine contraceptives, on the other hand, give couples time to choose the best time to have babies.

Women’s Reproductive Health and Transparency in Reproductive Monitoring in Jordan

In the latest 2023 World Health Organization report, only about 40 percent of married Jordanian women get to use a wide range of the latest family planning methods. For a traditional religious society, this is already a good indicator, showing fast improvements in society’s openness to the topic of reproductive freedom. But compared to global rates, the situation should improve several times over the next few years.

The public health system is trying to ensure women’s access to contraceptives and fertility-regulating medications within its capacity by sending mobile clinics to the most remote areas of the country. The growth of private health centers is also making reproductive services more open and accessible.

Access to Quality Health Services among Refugees

In this context, it is worth considering in detail the problem of providing contraceptive methods to the approximately more than 200 thousand women of reproductive age who are housed in the largest refugee camps. Limited resources and poor funding for refugee support programs in Jordan have hampered the timely provision of family planning services to this large population in the country. International foundations and charitable medical organizations are working hard to find better solutions to combat this problem.

The Role of Educational Programs for Raise Awareness in Jordanian Society

If we consider the reasons for insufficient awareness of the country’s population and look for ways to raise public information to increase the rate of use of progressive reproductive methods, we cannot ignore the need to actively implement educational programs for young people. Based on foreign experience, one can see how information campaigns focused on women in rural areas have a critical impact on the growth of performance indicators in raising public understanding of reproductive rights and family planning options. The school system is also moving towards revising strict rules and integrating sex education as a basis for reproductive health not only for women but also for the family as a whole.

Input of Non-governmental Organizations in Providing Information about Family Planning Basics

The issue of limited basic information on family planning and fertility control is actively addressed by several of Jordan’s largest non-governmental organizations:

  • Jordanian Family Planning Association plays a key role in raising awareness about family planning and providing services, especially in vulnerable communities;
  • UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund) supports the Jordanian government in implementing a sexual and reproductive health support program that includes total openness to family planning services;
  • USAID Health Service Delivery Project is focused on improving access to high-quality family reproductive, maternal and child health services.

Summary

The family planning situation has developed in recent years, although it still requires some incentives for improvement. Following a course of continuous evolution, Jordanian society is seeking new ways not only to provide quality health services to residents but also resources to maximize support for refugee families stranded in the country. The conservative nature of Jordanian society is a deterrent to the rapid adoption of information campaigns, yet the public health system and nongovernmental organizations are making great steps in providing women and young families with access to contraceptive methods and fertility tracking.
