Oxford subject Cambridge to double defeat in T20 Varsity Matches
Oxford wrapped up the men’s match after just 11.5 overs
Oxford reign victorious in the 2021 T20 Varsity Matches after defeating both of Cambridge’s men and women sides last Friday (14/05) at Fenner’s.
In the women’s fixture, Oxford won the toss and batted first, with Alex Travers securing 81 runs off 54 balls and her opening partner Vanessa Picker picking up 34 runs to achieve an opening partnership of 123 runs. The Oxford side finished their innings on 146-4.
The Cambridge side then batted, with Emma Jones scoring 63 runs off 51 balls, but they succumbed to defeat after only managing 121-7.
Meanwhile in the men’s match, Cambridge batted first but lost both of their opening batsmen after just seven runs. It is reported that Jovan Dhariwal then scored 24 runs, Aaran Amin 22 and Alex Moen 21, although the light blues achieved just 101-7 after their twenty overs.
Oxford’s Tom Gnodde then scored 64 runs from 32 balls, and Omar Mohamed 32 off 37 as they won by two runs on 103-1 after only 11.5 overs.
Oxford and Cambridge will next meet in the one-day men’s Varsity Match at Lord’s this coming Sunday (23/05), with the women’s match taking place at Wormsley in Buckinghamshire on Monday 28 June.
