As revision-hardened Cambridge students drudge on into the month of May, only anachronism (and seven weeks) separates us from May Week.

At Magdalene, though, the build-up has begun early. And now, Violet can exclusively announce KT Tunstall as the headline live performer.

Fresh from a string of concerts across Europe and en route to other side of the world, the ‘Suddenly I See’ singer is expected to stir a sensation among the sophisticated and the inebriated at the biennial May Ball.

“Tunstall will swap two local town venues for the gowniest of stages at Magdalene’s historic First Court”

“It is super exciting to have KT join our lineup”, Jeremy Bennett, music coordinator for the Magdalene May Ball Committee, enthused. “I’ve been told she holds a special fondness for our city and that speaking at the Cambridge Union was a real highlight of her last album tour.”

Tunstall, who played at the Cambridge Folk Festival and Corn Exchange last year after releasing her latest album, Kin, will swap two local town venues for the gowniest of stages at Magdalene’s historic First Court.

The Edinburgh-born, BRIT-award-winner will be sharing the spotlight with a less than likely companion, Kristian Nairn, who plays Hodor in the ‘Game of Thrones’ and is due to perform a DJ set on the night.

Her unique, pop-folk style punctuates a packed line-up, including Rock Q – a Queen tribute band – and the funky Shake Your Tail Feather.

“Welcoming KT to the Magdalene May Ball is a real honour and I’m sure the mixture of her style and our venue will create a gig to remember,” Bennett added, praising her powerful presence when singing live.

Magdalene’s May Ball, one of the last remaining without a changing theme, will take place on the 21st June. Due to high demand and organisational magic, more tickets are available to purchase via their website
