TH Pool launch hilarious cuppers promo. Fail to win a game
What Tit Hall lack at the baize, they make up for in banter, writes Violet News Correspondent Sneha Lala
Say what you like about the Trinity Hall pool team, but they certainly aren’t lacking in confidence.
Amidst the build-up to last weekend’s cuppers competition, students, support staff and even porters at Tit Hall helped whet our appetites with an inspirational video.
Captioned “One College. One People. One Dream”, the promo clip featured a number of excitable individuals declaring “I am TH POOL” to the backdrop of rousing music.
Maybe they always knew their loss would be inevitable, and were forced to stoop to psychological tactics. Maybe their self-belief was genuine. Maybe we’re overthinking this and they just wanted to procrastinate and avoid extra revision.
Whatever their motivation, the clip was clearly not enough to help the team when it actually came to playing pool. Despite calling themselves “one of the best pool societies in the uni” on their website, TH Pool made one of the shortest trips to the table in cuppers history and were whitewashed 5-0 by Queens.
“Imagine the Karate Kid, except if at the end William Zabka had broken everyone’s hearts by mercilessly beating Ralph Macchio”
Tom Wyer, TH Pool veteran
Team member, Tom Wyer, despaired at how he was unable to play in his last ever competitive outing for the college, but was quick to point out that made him one of only two unbeaten players that day.
“Imagine the Karate Kid, except if at the end William Zabka had broken everyone’s hearts by mercilessly beating Ralph Macchio’s face into the ground in front of his crying mother,” he told Violet in a statement. This match was that.”
It may not have been their best result, but you can’t say the TH pool team aren’t resilient. The squad took their humiliation as a cue for self-deprecation, with posts on Facebook lamenting their defeat.
And yet, the claim that Tit Hall form one of the strongest pool teams in Cambridge lingers conspicuously on their JCR page
