Cambridge claims first place in Good University Guide
The rankings, compiled by The Times and The Sunday Times, have put the University in the top spot for five years in a row
The University of Cambridge has been ranked first in the The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018, the fifth consecutive year it has claimed the position.
The rankings, which are to be published over three days from Sunday 24th September, put Cambridge at the top of 30 of its 67 subject-specific tables.
Universities are also ranked according to their performance in nine metrics, including staff to student ratio, spending on services and facilities, degree completion rates, the classification of degrees awarded, entry standards, research quality, graduate prospects, teaching quality, and student satisfaction. The University was the highest-placed institution for entry standards, degree completion rates, and spending, with an average of £3,510 spent on every student.
Teaching quality and student satisfaction are both traditionally measured using data collected through the National Student Survey. However, after a NUS-lead boycott of the survey earlier this year, no data was provided from Cambridge for either metric.
The Guide’s results come just weeks after Cambridge was beaten to the top spot in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings by the University of Oxford, and suffered a drop to fifth place in the QS World University Rankings
