News in brief: campaigning and drinking
A lighthearted round up for news stories from Cambridge and surrounding areas, including a new beer festival and focusing on football
A brew-tiful day for a new beer fest!

A new beer festival is coming to Cambridge this spring, inspired by the popular Frühlingsfest in Munich. The festival celebrates the end of winter and welcomes in the spring weather. Cambridge Frühlingsfest will take over Jesus Green on April 26, with it being turned into a mini Bavarian town for the day. A perfect way to procrastinate exam revision! There is to be various musical performances planned for the day including an oompah band, The Bavarian Strollers. There will also be some tribute acts singing songs by Neil Diamond, ABBA, Queen and others. Radio presenter Josh Lovatt of Star FM will be hosting and DJing the event.
New vision for Mill Road unveiled
Campaigners have unveiled a new vision for the future of Cambridge’s Mill Road. They are calling for investment to make improvements to the area for both residents and visitors. The improvements include widening pavements, adding more seating and planting, and larger-scale plans for four public areas. The group, Mill Road 4 People (MR4P), argue that long stretches of the road have had “no significant investment for decades,” and have suggested these ideas to make it more welcoming. MR4P chair Paul Lythgoe, said: “Other major shopping areas in Cambridgeshire such as St Neots town centre have seen major investment.” He added: “Mill Road and its immediate area has just as many if not more residents, and it should be our turn now.”
Cambridge United desperate to stay ‘in the mix’
Neil Harris, boss of Cambridge United, has encouraged his players to make sure they are “in the mix” after the Easter Weekend. This comes as the team is fighting to avoid being relegated from League One. Since Harris returned to the club for a second time in charge in February the team have won three and drawn three of 11 games. They face Huddersfield Town in West Yorkshire on Friday, and are currently seven points from safety with only four games remaining. “I’ve said all along that I want us to give ourselves a fighting chance and make sure we’re in the mix as long as possible in the division,” he told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.
