Elvira on Dexter:
What were you hoping for?

I didn’t know what to expect! I’ve not been on a date before so I was excited to see what it was like and have some fun.
So, you guys met at the Eagle, what were the vibes like? Did the date meet your expectations?
“I was worried we wouldn’t have things to talk about”
It was nice, we sat outside. It had a nice ambiance! I was surprised because Dexter is a humanities student, so i was worried I wouldn’t have things to talk about, but it was actually quite enjoyable.
What were your first impressions?
Very friendly, chatty, and smiley.
What did you guys talk about? Did you have much in common?
We spoke about degrees – he spoke very passionately about his! We also spoke about families, and his sounded so interesting compared to mine!
Were there any awkward moments?
There were a few short awkward silences, but overall the conversation flowed quite well.
How would you describe Dexter in three words?
Funny, friendly, smart.
What do you think Dexter thought of you?
I’m not sure! I hope he enjoyed our conversation as much as I did. I was nervous, I don’t know if he could tell!
Would you see Dexter again?
I would as a friend.
What would you rate the date out of ten?
Eight.
If you could change anything about the evening, what would it be?
It was a bit cold outside, so I would have gone inside!
Do you have any anecdotes that you’d tell your friends?
I found it funny how I mentioned an engineering concept, about how you can approximate a human being to a cylinder. To compare, he said that Socrates defined humans as a featherless biped. It was a nice way to compare our subjects!
Dexter on Elvira:
What were you hoping for?
I went in with low expectations. I signed up with one of my friends, so it was largely just going in and doing it for fun and to have the novelty of the experience.
So, you guys met at the Eagle, what were the vibes like? Did the date meet your expectations?
It was nice – we sat outdoors because it was quite busy. It’s my local pub so I kept seeing people I knew, but I tried to lock into the date! I was surprised at how I found the date kind of hard. I’m a lively person and I felt like Elvira was quite shy, so it took a while for her to get out of her shell.
“We joked about the recent events at Corpus and she said I was giving my college a better reputation!”
What were your first impressions?
Definitely sweet, and kind of shy.
What did you guys talk about? Did you have much in common?
The conversation was quite back and forth, like asking the same questions to one another rather than developing the conversation. I wouldn’t say we had much in common.
Were there any awkward moments?
Yes – there were a few moments where I had run out of questions and there was a pause where the ball was in Elvira’s court. Sometimes our sense of humour created a kind of awkward vibe too because they kind of clashed.
How would you describe Elvira in three words?
Smart, sweet, loves-engineering-jokes
What do you think Elvira thought of you?
I think she liked me. We joked about the recent events at Corpus and she said that I was giving my college a better reputation!
Would you see Elvira again?
I’d happily bump into her at the pub, but probably not romantically. She owes me a round of drinks!
What would you rate the date out of ten?
Six and a half.
Do you have any anecdotes that you’d tell your friends?
Just that it happened! I don’t think they’d see us as a match made in Heaven with our subjects and everything. I was also introduced to engineering jokes… they were something I had not encountered before!
