Rowan Williams to push trolley through Cambridge for City Foodbank
The new master of Magdalene College will be taking part in the trolley dash in his new role as patron of the Cambridge City Foodbank

Former Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, will push a food trolley through town on Saturday 27th April to raise funds for the Cambridge City Foodbank.
He will join the Mayor, Sheila Stuart, in pushing the trolley from Magdalene College at 10.30, before volunteers in fancy dress take it down Sidney Street and around the centre of town.
The trolley will be visiting towns and cities across the country over the course of the next few weeks. It forms part of a campaign by national foodbank charity the Trussell Trust to highlight and alleviate poverty and hidden hunger in Britain.
Funds raised here will go towards the Cambridge City Foodbank, which provides growing numbers of residents in crisis with 3 days of emergency food relief.
Dr Williams, who took over as Master of Magdalene College last year, became a patron of the charity in February.
‘People think of Cambridge as leafy and touristy,’ he said in a recent Radio 4 broadcast. ‘It’s important in my present position within the university to be aware of this other side of Cambridge, and to make sure the town and gown don’t drift too much apart’.

‘Please make every effort to come out and help, and have a bit of fun along the way!’ said David Goldspink, the Foodbank’s Project Co-ordinator.
Students interested in being volunteer collectors can email David at info@cambridgecityfoodbank.org.uk.
